We aren’t the only ones who love ‘Aurora’. . .

Fabrics & Wallpaper, Products

Aurora is a quintessentially romantic English floral design that has been given a modern update. Available in four colourways, it is screen-printed with our family-run textile printers in London who are devoted to age-old artisanal printing methods. It’s loved not only by us, but by some our talented contemporaries. Here are a few of our favourites . . .

“I have always had a yearning for chintz fabric, but you will find in today’s world that not a lot of people are brave enough to use it. I particularly love Aurora chintz because it is offered on a white linen, which is very fresh and clean and gives the chintz a more contemporary look. Most chintz you find on the market does not have such a crisp background, and if it does, it is usually a printed cotton. To me, Aurora in green on a white linen ground always seems less formal, less old-fashioned, and very fresh. With the variety of greens that are used in the pattern, it works beautifully in a blue room or a green-and-white room, and it looks strikingly contemporary in an all-white room!” Veere Grenney

One of Britain’s most respected interior designers, Veere Grenney has used Aurora on Nivelles Oyster, Green in several projects, each time with a sophistication and elegance that only he can bring.

“It was love at first sight when I saw Aurora five years ago, and I have been using it in projects ever since! The timeless elegance of the simplistic pattern on the fresh white linen background brings rooms to life. I have used it throughout homes—from headboards to armchairs and curtains and even my own tablecloth—and it never disappoints!” Helen Turkington

Helen Turkington is not only an established interior designer, she also runs successful homeware showrooms based in Dublin, Ireland. She has used Aurora on Nivelles Oyster, Green in many schemes, but our favourite might be this beautiful tablecloth dressed to perfection for lunch!

Aurora is a timeless design that is in perfect harmony with a classic country house interior. The colours are fresh and lively, without a trace of garishness, and keep a room feeling like spring all year round. As a background, it’s a perfect complement to both painted and polished furniture. We love it, and will never tire of it!” Andrew Hills, Porta Romana

Design – Andrew and Sarah Hills

Andrew Hills, creative director of Porta Romana, and his wife and business partner, Sarah Hills, have used Aurora, Green paper-backed fabric to great effect in a bedroom that feels like a romantic English garden setting. The fabric-clad walls add a wonderful, luxurious texture and help to create a sense of calm.

“I chose the Aurora, Green fabric on the chairs in the dining room because it is so fresh and very English, but also because it nods to Clementine Churchill’s dining room at Chartwell. The gentle colour and texture of this fabric also balances the grand plasterwork ceiling and intricate cornice detailing in the room.” Susie Atkinson

The Beaverbrook Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort, set in the heart of the Surrey countryside and once a respite for Sir Winston Churchill, was recently fully refurbished by Susie Atkinson. The designer and her team used Aurora on Nivelles Oyster, Green in the dining room to reflect a mood of relaxed English elegance.

We love Aurora’s almost masculine take on a chintz fabric, and the weight of the linen hangs so well as curtains. Rosanna Bossom

I have a very special bond with Aurora, as it is one of the first fabric designs I worked on. In a way, we grew up together, and from its origin as a typical chintz pattern, Aurora has now grown into a very elegant and timeless print.
The pattern works just as well in a bedroom as in a drawing room and it’s my favorite tablecloth of all the time.
