The owners of this magnificent property—a Georgian-style mansion that is one of London’s largest private residences built during the past decade—commissioned Philip Vergeylen and our Design Studio to create interiors that would reflect the grandeur of the estate. With a design brief for “more-is-more” opulence, the Studio focused on luxurious materials and exquisite craftsmanship to create bold, dramatic room settings with sumptuous details. A myriad of sources provided inspiration—the sun-splashed breakfast room recalls the pale green palette of the patisserie Ladurée; a Hong Kong restaurant created by Sir David Tang sparked the Chinese Art Deco–style games room; the library, inset with Coromandel-and-gilt panels inspired by Coco Chanel’s iconic Rue Cambon apartment, is lacquered a deep aubergine, the client’s favourite colour; and one of the four dining rooms references the deep emerald green of couturier Hubert de Givenchy’s storied drawing room in Paris. The luxurious bedroom suites feature dazzling bathrooms, tufted velvet sofas beckon in the screening room, and the pristine indoor pool is steps from an elegant sitting area furnished in classic rattan and a crisp blue-and-white chinoiserie print.
